Every day, good food gets thrown away just a few streets from someone who needed it.
A wedding with too much biryani left over. A bakery closing for the night with unsold bread. A household that cooked for guests who never came. None of it is spoiled, none of it is unwanted, it just never finds the person who could have used it.
At the same time, most of us have clothes, books, and household items sitting unused, too good to throw away, not worth selling, just waiting for someone who could actually use them.
That's why we built Baanto: an app where sharing food is always free, sharing an item takes one photo and a few taps, and safety is never an afterthought. No public phone numbers. No exact address handed out to strangers. No chat that lingers on after the pickup is done.
We built it for Pakistan specifically, for a phone that might be on 3G, for someone who wants big, simple buttons instead of a cluttered app, and for a culture where helping a neighbour has always mattered more than any app could.
